QUESTION : DO YOU BELIEVE THAT VIOLENCE IN TELEVISION PROGRAMS LEADS TO VIOLENCE IN

OUR SOCIETY?

Yes, I do believe that violence in television programs leads to violence in our society. The main reason is because television is the main source of entertainments that people watch. Nowadays, it is compulsory for families to have at least one television in their homes. Television is good if it is appropriately used. However, most programs in the television have contents that are full with negative elements such as violence and sexual.

We often heard about the increasing crime rates in our country in the news. At least once a week, crime news will appear and they range from robberies, kidnaps, homicides, rapes and many more. The most surprising thing is there are crimes that are done by underage teenagers and children. Have you ever thought how on earth these teenagers that are still schooling and should be enjoying their youth could commit such a terrible crime? This question once popped out in my mind and my answers to this question are bad influences from friends and television.

Everyone from adults to children watches television. However, children are known for being easily influenced as they are still in the growing process. Television violence causes aggressive behaviour in children. There are studies from experts that supports this statement and we can prove this just by observing children in our daily lives. Observe your little brothers or sisters. You can see that they like to imitate people in their surroundings and things they regularly watch. To add on a point, there are cartoons that show violence but in the cartoon the characters are not hurt. This has causes children to believe that violence doesn’t hurt and make them curious to try doing violence.

There are also many programs that show how bad people are famous with girls and amazingly rich. Television characters often depict risky behaviours, such as smoking and drinking, getting involved in underground gangs and also racial stereotypes. This has causes the viewers to think that they need to follow the steps of the characters they watch in order to be looked at in the society.

Last but not least, there are also many programs that show how to do crimes such as robbing a bank, kidnapping children and so much more. People with bad intentions could be inspired by these kind of shows and learn how to apply what they watch to do terrible things to the society. Therefore, it is clearly proven that violence in television does leads to violence in our society.
